Äänekoski offers excellent conditions for cottage life and holiday living, whether you prefer being close to the water, characterful villages or a tranquil urban setting. Here you won’t be alone if you don’t want to be, as we have around 3,000 summer cottage residents.

Things to do

There’s plenty to see and experience in Äänekoski. You can find current events in the event calendar. In summer, events are organized every weekend in Äänekoski. 

In addition to events, you’ll find wonderful nature sites, diverse hobbies and a variety of activities around the city. Have you heard of the community garden? In the garden located in Piilolanniemi on Eerolankatu, you can, for example, pick herbs for your salad or explore the pollinator garden. In summer, numerous restaurants serve hungry travelers across Äänekoski.

A cottage is a holiday resident’s second home. We want you to enjoy Äänekoski and feel like you’re part of our community. We have set up the Facebook group Äänekosken mökkiläiset, where you can network with other cottage residents, look for services and catch up.

Building

Building Control serves on weekdays 8:00–15:00 by appointment. The task of Building Control is to provide advice on construction, process building, action and demolition permits, and monitor the state of the built environment.

Repairs or chimney sweeping?

Does your cottage need a little touch-up or are you looking for local services? Business directory lists services and products in Äänekoski.

Please remember that the Rescue Act requires holiday homes to be swept every three years. The work may only be carried out by a certified professional chimney sweep.

Boating

You can reach Äänekoski via waterways all the way from Lahti or Savo. Many holiday residents have cottages on islands, so using a boat is essential. There are destinations in Äänekoski worth experiencing for boaters, and you can read about some of them here.

In Äänekoski’s map service you’ll find a wide range of information. You can search for local sports facilities, playgrounds or museums, for example. You can find the map service here. Carpet-washing sites

Äänekoski’s carpet-washing sites are available free of charge in summer for all residents and holiday home residents. Getting around

Did you know that we have a village bus? You can easily find public transport services here.

Borrow an e-bike!

Explore Äänekoski with a free Äänekoski e-bike, which you can borrow from Kesport Niskanen during the store’s opening hours.

Electric car charging stations

Plugit charging stations are now located in Äänekoski City Hall’s parking area, the Sports Hall/Mikonpuisto Daycare parking area, the high school yard, the Sports Park, in Suolahti at the ice rink yard, in Sumiainen at the parking area at the beginning of Taipaleentie and in Konginkangas in the parking area behind Sale. Find more information here.
