Midsummer in Honkola
The village of Honkola is located seven kilometers south of Äänekoski, along Saarijärventie. About 650 people live in Honkola.

In Honkola, Midsummer is spent with close neighbors, friends, and family. Locals can’t build their own Midsummer bonfire because there isn’t a suitable place for it. Fortunately, the nearest bonfires aren’t a long drive away. The closest ones are in Hietama or at Äänekoski harbor.

Honkola’s Midsummer traditions include placing Midsummer birches near the front door. Another tradition is a Midsummer drive to tour the local bonfires. After the drive, a Midsummer sauna usually awaits at home, using a birch whisk!
Happy Midsummer

Midsummer in Sumiainen
Midsummer in Sumiainen is a celebration for the whole village and the cottagers. In Sumiainen, Midsummer has been celebrated together with everyone at the Camping Sumiainen area. At Midsummer in Sumiainen, it’s nice to see other friends and acquaintances who come here to spend the holiday at cottages or with relatives, wherever they go.

I asked Päivikki Linna a question about Midsummer:
-What are the absolute Midsummer favorites in Sumiainen?
-The people and the opera are definite favorites across the whole village. Many cottagers come here from all over Finland to spend Midsummer and time together. Here, people can switch off and relax. At Camping Sumiainen, it’s wonderful to spend Midsummer as the sun hardly seems to set on the narrow peninsula.
Have a lovely Midsummer!
