Our Sunday plans were open, and we decided to go see an exhibition at the Äänekoski Art Museum.

I have to say, this gleaming steel exhibition was truly Heads and Tails! Animal figures made from recycled steel that came alive before our eyes. From machine components, Riikka has created captivating sculptures!

We took our time going around, as all the figures were interesting and full of fun details. Now and then we guessed which car or machine part each had been made from.

At the art museum we got an introduction to the making of the works, which are welded using a special technique, since normal stick welding doesn’t work for this steel. The artist has trained as an artisan and art craftsperson.

At the museum you can also get to know Riikka and her creations through newspaper clippings and her CV.

As we left, we signed the guestbook and noticed that the most recent group had been from a daycare :) So the exhibition suits everyone—go have a look!
