Unfortunately, Urho’s playoff hopes have crumbled to merely theoretical after Peurunka HT beat SuKiKa last Sunday. With this win, Peurunka pulled three points clear. A tie on points is still possible, but in the II Division the ranking in a tie is decided by goal difference, which is in Peurunka’s favor.

However, the standings do not lessen the importance of Saturday’s game; it will be Urho’s last regular-season match in the legendary Suolahti ice hall, Murskaamo! The already group-winning Karjalan Kopla will arrive as the visiting team.

Early this week I asked the Urho folks some tough questions about Murskaamo and the upcoming new ice hall.

All former years’ Urho first-team players and staff have been invited to the game. The City of Äänekoski will give away 40 pairs of skates in sizes 34-44, as well as a few children’s helmets, starting at 15:30 and during the first intermission.

Urho’s team captain Sami Pekkala welcomes everyone once more to the legendary Murskaamo: ”If over the hall’s nearly 30-year history you haven’t had the chance to experience Murskaamo’s atmosphere, now is the perfect time to come enjoy the spring weather in Suolahti!  All former years’ Urho first-team players and staff. At the game there will be a giveaway of 40 pairs of skates in sizes 34-44, donated by the City of Äänekoski, as well as a few children’s helmets starting at 15:30. There’s also an interesting name on the opponent’s roster worth coming to see. Namely, the Czech forward Tomas Netik, who has experience from over 200 KHL games as well as the Czech national team!”

Next to the legendary Murskaamo, a new net-zero-energy ice hall has already begun to rise! This autumn we’ll get to make new memories in the new hall’s surroundings.

Everyone come cheer Urho’s last regular-season game at Murskaamo!
