Visiting the Äänekoski Art Museum

Äänekosken Taidemuseo is located in an idyllic and charming wooden house, where, in addition to art experiences, you can also sense the rustle of history.
The villa designed by Bruno Granholm was built at the turn of the 20th century as a home for the Hammaren family; later, the house was divided into smaller apartments for the factory's engineers and their families, and later still the factory's office. Since 2005, the Art Museum has operated in the premises.
Äänekosken Taidemuseo from the outside
The Art Museum has a permanent exhibition from the collections of Toivo Parantainen. Parantainen was a teacher and art collector whose collection contains about 750 works of art. On the other side of the museum, the exhibition changes three to four times a year, with the works always connected in some way to Äänekoski.
Not only is the house itself enchanting, the permanent exhibition is a delight as well! Would you expect to come across works by Hugo Simberg or Helene Schjerfbeck in Äänekoski? Yet there they are. I myself gazed at Simberg's Köynnöspoika with due reverence for quite a while. Schjerfbeck's Ex Libris made for the Reuter family were also fascinating. Einar Reuter's, that is, the painter H. Ahtela's, paintings spoke to me with their serenity. The permanent exhibition also includes, among others, works by Kalle Carlstedt and Erkki Tanttu.
Definitely worth a visit, for both tourists and locals!
