On Thursday 11 July, we the summer employees at Visit Äänekoski’s tourist information, got to visit Metsä Group’s visitor centre Pro Nemus. Pro Nemus is located adjacent to the bioproduct mill. At the visitor centre you can also learn about other Metsä Group mills, products and innovations.

At the start of the visit, Pro Nemus guides presented a slideshow and, with the help of videos, the main points of Metsä Group’s operations. After the presentation we were free to explore the different stations in the visitor centre.

At one station you could use touchscreens to try out how the bioproduct mill operates. Other touchscreens let you read the history of Äänekoski’s mills from the 1800s onward. On one screen you could follow how the products travel once they leave the bioproduct mill for the world.

Virtual factory tour with VR glasses

At one of the most popular stations you could try VR glasses. With the headset you could take a virtual factory tour. There were many factory options; of course we tested Äänekoski. The VR glasses offered an interesting and comprehensive look at the mill.

We also learned where pulp and cardboard can be used. Such products include, for example, toothpaste that contains pulp, and product packages made from cardboard. There were also other products on display that are made from pulp and cardboard.
