Roots in Central Finland
Kömin Kilta |
The Juuret Keski-Suomessa project is a research project by Kotiseutuyhdistys Kömin Kilta.
It recorded valuable cultural heritage about people whose life paths have led from Central Finland abroad and possibly back again. We gathered history through a survey, interviews, photos, postcards, and other materials.
The project examined the stories of expatriate Finns and returnees. Based on the research data collected in the project, a book was published at the beginning of July and the Juuret Keski-Suomessa exhibition was opened.
You can explore the stories of expatriate Finns in the museum exhibition at the Konginkankaan kotiseutumuseo throughout July. The exhibition is a concise package of the book’s content in the form of objects, photos, and stories.

The museum also hosts a music session on Wednesdays in July starting at 1 pm. The book Siirtolaistarinoita Keski-Suomesta - Konginkankaalta maailmalle is available at the museum!
Upstairs, a local heritage exhibition is also open; photos below.
