Sumiaisten Hitonhauta

A waymarked nature site in Sumiaiset featuring a cliff face and a collapsed ravine.

Sumiaisten Hitonhauta is a unique nature site offering hikers rugged scenery. Two yellow-marked trails run through the area: the lower route and the upper route, each giving a different perspective on the gorge. Both offer distinctive views but differ in difficulty and scenery.

Lower route

Leads straight to the gorge floor at the base of steep cliff walls. Rocky and demanding; recommended for experienced hikers. Offers impressive views of sheer cliffs and the deep ravine lying tens of meters below the ridge crest. The floor is strewn with moss-covered stones and is strikingly quiet.

Upper route

An easy trail through grove-like forest to the heights above Hitonhauta. About 1 km long with great views. Ideal for enjoying the scenery without major effort.

There is a fire site at the top of the cliff (bring your own firewood). Parts of the trails run in a nature reserve—please stay on the marked paths.
