Laulavan mörön luontopolku

Laulavan Mörön polku (Mörköpolku) weaves in Sumiainen through the lake landscapes of the Syvälahden, Lohilahden and Vihijärven villages, across wooded heaths and ridges, at times climbing to hills with beautiful long forest views. For ages, locals have traveled not only by waterways but also along easy ridge and heath paths. As a local rural development project, Syvälahden kyläyhdistys has cleared and marked part of this once-extensive, now overgrowing trail network for everyone who enjoys the outdoors.

Laulavan Mörön polku is named after its endpoints. Laulumäki on the shore of Keitele is a viewpoint at the north end, and to the south the trail ends in wilderness-like bog forest at the murmuring Mörkökoski.

The route, waymarked with Mörkö signs and red dots on trees, totals 19 km. The map shows many other intersecting paths in the area for shorter outings. A day hut has been opened along Laulavan Mörön polku for hikers to take a breather and enjoy coffee from a thermos or other refreshments while admiring the views. Overnighting and open fires are prohibited in the day hut. In addition, the trail has Väliharjun kota, where you can stay overnight. There is also an outdoor toilet here.

You can start your trip on Laulavan Mörön polku from several places. Information boards are located along the route. Note: Syvälahden koulu is privately owned and entering the yard is prohibited. The Syvälahden parking area for Laulavan Mörön polku has been moved to the gravel pit along Syvälahdentie, address Syvälahdentie 454. After walking about 150 m along the road to the left, you will find the trailhead at the junction by the old school. Do not enter the yard. The building is privately owned.

A connecting path from behind the former Sisä-Suomen sairaala in Suolahti also leads to Mörkökoski. Map boxes are also at the kota and at the Kaakkovuori lookout tower. Making fires on Kaakkovuori is not permitted.

CYCLING:

Laulavan mörön luontopolku is well suited to mountain biking. The best section for cycling is between Syvälahden koulu and Mörkökoski (Suolahti end). Kettuhiekka and Laulumäki are more challenging terrain; on this section you will encounter, for example, larger rocky areas and stairs.
