Köyhyydenkylä

Located in Rautionmäki, Köyhyydenkylä is an atmospheric museum area available to rent for various events and celebrations. Köyhyydenkylä was built to tell the story of a bygone era. Built through volunteer work, the village incurred no costs except for nails, as all materials were recycled. That is how the name Köyhyydenkylä came about.

The village’s main building is Riihipirtti, whose stone foundation is from a burned-down abandoned cowshed. Riihipirtti is a popular venue for different kinds of events.

The village also has Äänekoski-talo, whose appearance reflects workers’ housing of the past. A wartime dugout, built inside and out to an authentic model, recalls the war years. The Elämänkivet-patsasholvi was created to remind visitors of the finiteness of life.

There is also a traditional smoke sauna and a lean-to shelter. There is no lake.

All spaces in Köyhyydenkylä are available for rent. The village hosts can arrange coffee and buns or good meals by order. Guided tours and, for example, music performances are also available on request. Facilities and services are booked through Sumiaisten Vanharouva.
