A charming residential area in the Pukkimäki district. Built as housing for Äänekoski Oy's workers in 1920–27.
The Pukkimäki area is located right next to the center of Äänekoski. The area was built as housing for Äänekoski Oy's workers in 1920–27.
The area has eight four-family houses designed by Birger Brunila, with their outbuildings. The buildings are one-and-a-half-storey classic wooden houses with gabled roofs, hipped at the top. All the buildings have retained their original appearance, including porches adorned with decorative carvings, small-paned windows, gable 'kissanpenkit', and skylights. The area is highly representative and significant in terms of architectural history, and historically it illustrates a workers' residential area built by factories. In terms of landscape, Pukkimäki is a charming whole with its surrounding trees.
